Onyx Chess Set, Brown & White, Complete and Cased

Good Onyx chess set in green velvet case.

Pieces and board contrast in colour, one side is off white, the other side

is a browny green.

Difficult to date….probably 1970s or 1980s.

Board measures 30cms x 30cms.

Pawns stand around 4.5cms tall and increase gradually in size up to the king

who stands 7cms tall.

Heavy set, weighs nearly 5kgs unpacked.

Condition - nice, each piece has a felt pad stuck to the bottom of it to stop the

board from getting scratched. Board is nice with just a couple of hardly

noticeable tiny nibbles to the edge, these however may just be flaws in the

natural stone. As Onyx is quite easily to damage, we 

have carefully checked each playing piece and can report the following:

Pawns on both side are all ok.

Bishops on both side all ok.

Knights all have ‘knocks’ to an ear except for one dark piece who is ok.

Castle/Rooks on both the light pieces and one dark piece have tiny chips.

King - dark one all ok, light one tiny chip.

Queens on both sides all ok.

As all the chips are to the top of the pieces it would suggest that there has been

some over exuberant taking whilst playing in the past.

Overall it is still a great looking and perfectly playable chess set.
